In 2013/14 SCC supported the Creative sector by funding a range of business support activities including workshops, training, study visits, apprenticeships to help businesses to become more innovative. This is the story of the 2013 - 2014 Innovation fund

Somerset has a very active and lively Creative Industry sector. The latest employment figures (BRES 2012*) for Somerset indicate that 5,700 people were employed in the Creative Industries. This represents 2.6% of total employment in the County). (*Source: Business Register and Employment Survey 2012, NOMIS)

A defining characteristic of the sector is its diversity – ranging from business in the arts and cultural sectors, makers and also including businesses in digital, ICT and media activities. Similarly employment and the generation of value in Somerset’s creative economy spans private businesses, the charitable sector and social enterprises.

In 2013/14 SCC supported the sector by funding a range of business support activities including workshops, training, study visits, apprenticeships and through some European Interreg funding commissioned support to help businesses to become more innovative. As a consequence, the businesses that have benefited will be able to develop further and grow their services, generating income and new jobs.

Examples of the work funded in 2013/14 can be seen in this commissioned film
